COVID-19 Updates

COVID-19 Updates

Wingate University COVID-19 Updates

Wingate University is in the process of resuming some of its campus operations, and faculty and staff are working hard to prepare for on-campus classes for fall 2021. Every member of the Bulldog community must rise to the challenge of caring for one another.

The health and safety of our community is our paramount priority as we adapt to the COVID-19 threat. Please use this webpage as your official guide for how you can do your part to keep each other safe and well.

Student Organizations and Activities

Meetings will be held virtually. Some activities may be possible if held in small groups and social distancing can be maintained. Sorority recruitment will be fully virtual with the exception of the Preference event. Details surrounding Welcome Week events are still being worked out. Other events will be held virtually.

Alpha Xi Delta Nationals COVID-19 Updates

We know that many of you are like us, fluctuating between nervous and anxious in these chaotic times. I want to assure you that your National Council, Foundation Trustees, and National Housing Corporation Boards of Directors, in conjunction with Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity staff, are focused on all the necessary items to keep Alpha Xi Delta moving forward. We have created a page on our website that answers all of our frequently asked questions related to the Coronavirus pandemic. This page will be updated often and will be the most up-to-date information for our recommendations and answers as it relates to Coronavirus.

Resources

Mental Health Services: AllOne Health

Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity has partnered with AllOne Health to provide Talk One-2-One, a confidential counseling service provider, for its collegiate members to speak confidentially and free of charge to discuss issues such as depression, roommate issues, eating disorders, stress, money issues and alcohol/drug issues. With this partnership, Alpha Xi Delta's collegiate members, advisors, Fraternity volunteers and members' parents, can call the Talk One-2-One 1-800 number, day or night, and speak to a professionally-trained counselor to tackle problems through support, advocacy and empowerment. The phone number is 1-800-756-3124.

Social Distancing Sisterhood Ideas

Have Sisters who have a cool talent go "live" or Skype and do a tutorial. For example, a cooking class tutorial or a canvas painting from home tutorial. This would also be a great virtual Sisterhood where you could break the chapter up into smaller groups based on the “talent” they want to learn.

Post a prompting question in the chapter wide GroupMe or on OmegaOne every day such as: "What's something great that has happened to you today?"

Have the Sisterhood Director DM a new Sister each week and ask her five facts about herself. Then the Sisterhood Director shares five facts about a "random” Sister and the first person to correctly guess which Sister it is wins a prize in the fall.

Pair up rose buddies for FaceTime/Snapchat buddies.

Share a link to a free online workout class that everyone can do and then send a selfie after they did it.

Social Distancing Outfit of The Day (SDOOTD): Create a GroupMe where everyone sends the funny outfits they're wearing at home (Example: Professional top, but pajama bottoms).

Have a Netflix Party

Have a pet show and tell with Sisters.

Skincare face masks on FaceTime Sisterhood event!

“Hot seat”: Choose one (or multiple Sisters) on video chat and have everyone send in the chat (or say out loud) something they love and appreciate about the Sisters.

Formal fashion show: Did you or a Sister already buy their formal dress that they can’t return? Show it off on FaceTime or take a cute picture in it and post in a photo circle album.

Is there a Sister who is a yoga instructor or other type of fitness instructor? Ask her to teach a class to the rest of the chapter over Zoom or Google hangout.

Etc.

What does this means for our chapter?

For the Iota Zeta Chapter, this means we will be adjusting our plans to better fit our circumstances. We are a really strong sisterhood and have banded together to get through this pandemic thus far. We have had virtual meetings and Sisterhoods through out the last few months to stay connected and prepare to come back to campus. We have a more flexibility, than others, in terms of how we can operate due to the size of our chapter and will be making plans accordingly. We have been given a maximum of 25 people meeting at a time outside. What this means is all chapter meetings larger than 25 people will take place virtually but meetings under that will be adjusted to meet and accommodated for in person. Events will still be planned and special moments will still happen but at a smaller capacity. If that means rotating sisters through an event or having multiple of the same event for sisters to enjoy we will make it happen. The safety of our sisters is of the highest importance. We also respect the wishes of our sisters and future sisters to remain on virtual platforms only and other variations that best fit their health needs and we will plan events that can incorporate all of these women.  As we plan for our fall semester we are keeping all of these things in mind and working to create the best possible sorority experience.

In terms of recruitment, this will be a hybrid system in which virtual and in person activities will take place. Our in person activities will be less than 25 people and we will follow all social distancing protocols. Our sisters will also wear a mask for recruitment and for any future events in the fall. We are exploring options for an in person bid day and will have the best social distancing celebration for that in the safest way possible.

For our fall semester, we are planning in person events as we normally would as well as virtual events and adjusting them to fit our community and our sisters needs and safety. Check out the chapter news tab for details about our plans for the fall semester! Our sisters will be required to wear masks for all of our events that are in person and the majority of all chapter meetings will take place virtually as recommended by nationals. We can get through this pandemic together and make it a good time!  If you have any questions email our President Emily Graumann at em.graumann634@wingate.edu.
